The tassie bat project is part of my postraduate study researching:

(1) How forest availability influences bat habitat use and species assemblages in timber production landscapes.

(2) Creating a Tasmanian bat call library and identification key.

The other part of this project is educating people about Tasmania's bats through volunteering and a series of school and community bat walks and talks.

Did you know Tasmania has eight species of bat?

Tasmania is home to eight species of insectivorous bat including the Gould’s wattled bat (Chalinolobus gouldii), Chocolate wattled bat (Chalinolobus morio), Eastern falsistrelle (Falsistrellus tasmaniensis), Lesser long-eared bat (Nyctophilus geoffroyi),  Large forest bat (Vespadelus darlingtoni), Little forest bat (Vespadelus vulturnus),  the Southern forest bat (Vespadelus regulus) and the endemic Tasmanian long-eared bat (Nyctophilus sherrini).
